1. Eligibility

Tour:  All amateur class disc golfers as defined by the PDGA. https://www.pdga.com/divisions

PDGA Members and non-members are welcome to compete. Non-member PDGA $10 fee waived for their first sanctioned Exclusive tournament.

If a competitor does not currently have a PDGA player status/rating please see the “competition and etiquette” portion of this handbook.

If a PDGA member does not have amateur status with the PDGA at the time of competition, they are eligible to compete so long as they meet the PDGA qualifications for reclassification and reclassify by the end of September 2019.  Failure to do so results in the competitor forfeiting any national or regional payout awards and/or invites to the National Championship.

For reference, PDGA Pro to Amateur reclassification requirements:

Please contact the PDGA Memberships Manager with your request for reclassification. Pro class players may reclassify to Amateur class provided they meet the following criteria (excerpt from PDGA):

  • The player has not accepted cash while competing in a Professional division within the past year.
  • The player has not previously been reclassified from Pro to Amateur within the past five years.
  • The player’s rating is…
  • less than 970 for males under 40 years of age throughout the calendar year
  • less than 935 for males of ages 40-49 throughout the calendar year
  • less than 900 for males of ages 50-59 throughout the calendar year
  • less than 850 for males of ages 60-69 throughout the calendar year
  • less than 800 for males of age 70 or older throughout the calendar year
  • less than 875 for females under 40 years of age throughout the calendar year
  • less than 825 for females of ages 40-49 throughout the calendar year
  • less than 775 for females of ages 50-59 throughout the calendar year
  • less than 725 for females of ages 60-69 throughout the calendar year
  • less than 700 for females of age 70 or older throughout the calendar year

2. Registration, Withdrawals and Refunds

Registration:

Next Gen TD’s will seek to open registration a minimum of 3 weeks prior to any event whenever possible. TD’s may use their preferred platform for tournament registration.  All Next Generation events and registration links may be found on the Next Gen website.

Registration for the National Championship Tournament is by invitation only; Qualified invitees will be sent registration information once they have qualified for an invitation as described in this handbook.

Refunds:  

Exclusive/League/Affiliate: All competitor refunds are managed by the event TD and are to follow PDGA guidelines unless specifically noted.

Premier Events/National Championship:  Competitor refund requests received 2 weeks prior to the respective tournament will be refunded in full minus any incurred administration fees (PayPal/Discgolfscene, etc.)

Withdrawals:

Exclusive/League/Affiliate: All competitor withdrawals will be handled at the TD’s discretion.

Premier Events/National Championships: All competitor withdrawals within 2 weeks of the Tournament and up to 2 hours prior to the published start of the event check-in will receive, at the discretion of the Next Generation Staff, either a cash refund or players package. Next Gen Staff will seek to administer any such requests within 30 days after the event is completed.

No-Shows:

All events; Competitors will be treated as ‘no-shows’ if they do not check-in by the published time.   Any no-show competitors who have not withdrawn as per above forfeit their entry fee and players package.

3. Competition and Etiquette

All Next Generation Tournaments will follow the Official Rules of Disc Golf as defined by the Professional Disc Golf Association and the Professional Disc Golf Association Competition Manual for Disc Golf Events unless superseded or contradicted by any statement in this handbook.

All PDGA Divisions are hosted by the Next Gen Tour and will be offered per the guidelines of the Professional Disc Golf Association and at the discretion of the TD. All contested divisions with a minimum of 10 competitors regionally or nationally are eligible for the respective regional or national online payouts. The National Championship, a PDGA Pro Invitational tournament for Amateurs Only, will crown champions in the MA1, FA1, and MA40 divisions only.

Any exceptions to the Official Rules at a specific Next Generation Tournament will be announced at the players meeting prior to the event.
All competitors in Next Generation Tournaments are expected to compete with the highest integrity and respect for the Official Rules as defined by the PDGA. Any competitor guilty of misconduct is subject to disciplinary action up to disqualification by the Tournament Director. Any competitor disqualified from a Next Generation Tournament automatically forfeits: any further participation in 2019 Next Generation tournaments, prize payouts, player package, and, if applicable, refunds therefrom.
Any appeals must be made in writing via email to the Next Generation Tour Director and allow a minimum of 3 weeks for response.

4. NG Point System

All Next Gen event competitors receive NG Points when competing in all NG Events other than the National Championship.  

Use:

Competitor NG Point Totals are the basis for state, regional and national rankings.  

State Rankings – The top ranked MA1 division points leader in each State earns an invite to register for National Championship.

Regional Rankings – Season-end online payouts to all contested divisions with a minimum of 10 competitors by Region.

National Rankings – Season-end online payouts to all contested divisions with a minimum of 10 competitors on a National basis.

Note: Regional and National payout tables are defined in Section 7

Definition:

NG Points are based on PDGA points awarded at NG Tournaments with the exception of NG League events (described below).  

Following the publication of official NG Tournament results on PDGA.com which include point awards, NG imports the PDGA point totals and multiplies them by the following factors based on the type of NG Event:


Premier events: 5x PDGA points
Exclusive events:   4x PDGA points

NG League events: 3 points per player beat
DGPT Am Side Events: 2 points per player beat

NG A-tier affiliate: 3x PDGA points
NG B-tier affiliate: 2x PDGA points
NG C-tier affiliate: 1x PDGA points

NG League Points:  For all NG 1-round / league events the entire field is treated as 1 division with 1 point per player beat awarded.  The point factor for NG League points is 3x.

Tracking and Reporting

NG Points are tracked and reported by state, region and on a national basis; Current standings can be found via the ‘Standings’ tab on the NextGenDiscGolf.com website.

Individual Competitors may also review their Next Gen events, point summaries, and standings via the player profiles hosted by our signature sponsor and partner, InfiniteDiscs.com.

5. Tournament Formats

The 2019 Next Generation Disc Golf Tour hosts 7 different event types where competitors may earn NG Points.  The event schedule may be found at https://nextgendiscgolf.com/2019-tour-schedule/

Next Gen Tournament/Event Formats:

1) Next Generation Exclusive Event

Description: Typically PDGA Sanctioned C-Tier tournaments identified as Next Generation Tour Exclusive events.  Tournaments are open to all qualifying competitors of any age, skill or gender. All PDGA Divisions are hosted by the Next Gen Tour and will be offered per the guidelines of the Professional Disc Golf Association and at the discretion of the TD.

For first time members, the $10 PDGA non-member fee is waived for their first Next Generation Tour Event.

All Next Generation Exclusive events are partnered with EDGE Disc Golf. A minimum of $2 per player is donated to EDGE

NG Point Factor: 4X PDGA points (or equivalent) earned

Field: Defined by TD

Format: minimum 2 rounds of 18 holes

EDGE Program: This year every Exclusive event is part of the EDGE Tournament Charity Program (TCP) event.  Next Gen Disc Golf will donate $2 per player to EDGE. NG TD’s may also include additional fundraisers for EDGE at their events.

Economics:

Standard Next Generation Exclusive Entry Fee: $49

Player Package: The Players Package is valued at approximately $90 (actual value varies by manufacturer) and includes a disc, 50% off any pair of Keen shoes (nominal value $65), a towel and a sticker.  Every competitor may either select from

    • one of 10 manufacturer custom player packages including (in alphabetical order) Discmania, Discraft, Gateway, Kastaplast, Infinite, Innova, Latitude 64, Legacy, MVP, and Prodigy; or

  • Next Gen TD’s may elect to align with a single manufacturer, in that case – competitors will receive that manufacturer’s player package. Such will be clearly noted when registering.

Full Payout: Payouts for all Next Gen Exclusive events will, at a minimum, be per PDGA standards and likely much higher.  All Exclusive event payouts are hosted by Infinitediscs.com and competitors may redeem their winnings with free shipping via their website.

Year-end Payouts: Every competitor is also eligible, via their NG Points, for year-end Regional and National online payouts.


2) Next Generation 1 Round/League Event

Description: One round (18 holes minimum) competition following PDGA rules of competition.  Typically unsanctioned. Treated as 1 division.

NG Point Factor: 3X NG League points (or equivalent) earned; For all NG 1-round / league events the entire field is treated as 1 division with 1 point per player beat awarded.  

Field Size: Defined by TD

Format: 1 round; minimum 18 holes

Economics:

Standard Next Generation One Round Entry Fee: $20

Player Package: The Players Package is valued at approximately $25 (actual value varies by manufacturer) and includes a disc and a sticker.  Every competitor may either select from

    • one of 10 manufacturer custom player packages including (in alphabetical order) Discmania, Discraft, Gateway, Kastaplast, Infinite, Innova, Latitude 64, Legacy, MVP, and Prodigy; or

  • Next Gen TD’s may elect to align with a single manufacturer, in that case – competitors will receive that manufacturer’s player package. Such will be clearly noted when registering.

Event Payout: None, unless provided by TD/Club.

Year-end Payouts:

    • Every competitor is also eligible, via their NG Points, for year-end Regional and National online payouts.

  • Every 1-round competitor is eligible for a year-end payout for one round/league point earners only.

 
3) Next Generation Premier Event

Description: Multiple events per region based on participation/demand. Typically PDGA Sanctioned B- or A-Tier tournaments identified as Next Generation Tour Premier events.  Tournaments are open to all qualifying competitors of any age, skill or gender. All PDGA Divisions are hosted by the Next Gen Tour and will be offered per the guidelines of the Professional Disc Golf Association and at the discretion of the TD. The final 9 may be filmed and edited for posting after the event.

For non-PDGA members, the $10 PDGA non-member fee is waived for their first Next Generation Tour Event.

NG Point Factor: 5X PDGA points earned

Field: Defined by TD

Format: minimum 3 rounds of 18 holes; with final nine for top 5 in MA1, FA1 and MA40;

Economics:

Standard Next Generation Premier Entry Fee: $100

Player Package: The Players Package is valued at approximately $100-$120 (actual value varies by manufacturer) and includes a disc, a towel, tube of Zanfel, a hat, backpack bag and a sticker.  Contents of each vary by manufacturer. Every competitor may either select from

    • one of 10 manufacturer custom player packages including (in alphabetical order) Discmania, Discraft, Gateway, Kastaplast, Infinite, Innova, Latitude 64, Legacy, MVP, and Prodigy; or

  • Next Gen TD’s may elect to align with a single manufacturer, in that case – competitors will receive that manufacturer’s player package. Such will be clearly noted when registering.

Lunches are included each day.

Full Payout: Payouts for all Next Gen Premier events will, at a minimum, be per PDGA standards and likely much higher.  All Premier event payouts are hosted by Infinitediscs.com, a portion of the payout may include predetermined sponsor prizes, and competitors may redeem their winnings with free shipping via their website.

Year-end Payouts: Every competitor is also eligible, via their NG Points, for year-end Regional and National online payouts.

National Championship Invitations: The top finishers in the MA1 divisions earns an invitation to compete in the National Championship.


4) Next Generation Affiliate Events

Description: PDGA Sanctioned A-,B-,or C- tiers;  For 2019, any PDGA sanctioned tournament TD may elect to affiliate with the Next Generation Tour by providing competitors Next Gen Player Packages.  All amateur competitors in Next Generation Affiliate events earn NG points.

NG Point Factor:

PDGA C-Tier:  1x PDGA Points

PDGA B-Tier:  2x PDGA Points

PDGA A-Tier:  3x PDGA Points

Note to earn the above point factors, TD’s need to offer the correlating players packages.   For example, if a PDGA A-Tier event affiliates with the Next Generation Tour and purchases the C-Tier player package from Next Gen, competitors will receive 1x PDGA points.

Player Package:

Player Package: Players Packages vary by Tier and Manufacturer.   Every competitor may either select from

    • one of 10 manufacturer custom player packages including (in alphabetical order) Discmania, Discraft, Gateway, Kastaplast, Infinite, Innova, Latitude 64, Legacy, MVP, and Prodigy; or

  • Next Gen TD’s may elect to align with a single manufacturer, in that case – competitors will receive that manufacturer’s player package. Such will be clearly noted when registering.

C-Tier Level Player Package: $25 nominal value;  Disc, Towel, Sticker;

B-Tier Level Player Package: $50 nominal value; Disc, Towel, Sticker, Hat

A-Tier Level Player Package:  $100 nominal value; Disc, Towel, Sticker, Hat, Backpack

Year-end Payouts: Every affiliate competitor is also eligible, via their NG Points, for year-end Regional and National online payouts.

6. European and International Qualifiers

The Next Generation Tour continues its European pilot outside of the United States.  

Formats, pricing and details for these may be found on the respective website and linked to from the Next Generation main website.

The European Next Generation Tour will include its own tour payout for its competitors.

National Championship Invitations:

    • The top 10 MA1 Competitors from Europe and Canada will be extended iInvitations to the National Championship.

    • The top 3 FA1 Competitors from Europe and Canada will be extended invitations to the National Championship

  • The top 5 MA40 Competitors from Europe and Canada will be extended invitations to the National Championship.

Any declined invitations default to Wildcard invitations as described in Section 9. National Championship Tournament.

7. REGIONAL AND NATIONAL ONLINE PAYOUTS

The Next Generation Tour is organized into 7 regions:

Northeast:  Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, West Virginia, Virginia.

Southeast: Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi.

Midwest: Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota

Central:  Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas

Mountain: Colorado, Wyoming, North Dakota, South Dakota, Utah, Idaho, Montana

Southwest: New Mexico, California, Arizona, Nevada

Northwest: Washington, Oregon, Alaska, Hawaii

Canadian Tour Events:  All Next Gen events held in Canada will have their National Championship and National Payout invitations based on Canada only as per Section 6.

Additional Year-End Payouts:

The 2019 Next Generation Disc Golf Tour also plans the following additional payouts:

DGPT Points Payout:  The top 10 DGPT Amateur competitors as ranked by DGPT AM points will receive a prize payout at year-end.   Total projected payout amount and payout scale will be released prior to the end of the competition season.

League/1-Round Points Payout:  The top 10 amateur competitors as ranked by NG League Points will receive a prize payout at year-end.   Total projected payout amount and payout scale will be released prior to the end of the competition season.

8. NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT

Description: PDGA Pro Invitational tournament for Amateurs Only; PDGA Sanctioned A-Tier Tournament.  Friday November 8 thru Sunday November 10 in Austin, Texas.

Should a competitor already be invited to the National Championship, the invitation will be extended to the next qualifying competitor, unless it defaults to a wildcard competitor.

All ties will be broken by the higher of the most recent rated round and thereafter, if necessary, the next preceding round until the tie is broken.

In the event any invited competitor declines the invitation, the invitation becomes a wildcard invitation..

Wildcard Invites: Next Generation will award Wildcard invites at their will.  When awarding invites Next Gen Staff will seek to do so in a way that is fair and embraces the spirit and values of the tour.

NG staff may, at their discretion, set deadlines for decisions to ensure fairness to all involved. An invitation is considered accepted once the competitor registers for the tournament at www.discgolfscene.com.

Player Experience:

National Championship Entry Fee: $200

Player Package: The Players Package is valued at approximately $425 and includes discs and other projects from the Tour Sponsors.  

Player Amenities:  Entry includes breakfast and lunch each day of the competition; a player dinners each evening;

Next Gen National Team Members will be on site for clinics and to enhance the player experience.

Custom Trophies for all Top Finishers.

National Championships Payouts:

For 2019 Next Generation Disc Golf payouts will include cash and those who accept the cash prize move to professional class members as defined by the PDGA.

Competitors have the option to decline the cash prize to retain their amateur status.  Competitors who decline the cash prize are awarded merchandise equal to 75% of the prize value via Next Gen partner, Infinitediscs.com;

MA1 Division Payout:

  • Cash projected $33,750; does not include prize value.
  • Projected based on anticipated participation.

9. 2020 NEXT GENERATION DISC GOLF TEAM

On or around January 1, 2020 Next Generation Disc Golf will release details on the 2020 Next Generation Disc Golf Team for both the Premier and Exclusive levels.

The Next Generation Disc Golf team is a mark of prestige for the 2020 competitive season. The following team member benefits are anticipated:

  • Custom team apparel.
  • A team disc allowance
  • Entry fees to select tournaments in 2019
  • Team-exclusive incentives and prizes

10. DISCLAIMERS AND RELEASES

Next Generation Disc Golf reserves the right to make changes to tournament dates, field sizes, formats, prizes and locations.  All such changes will be clearly communicated as necessary. Next Generation Disc Golf reserves the right to make any changes to prizes, prize value or substitutions. In the event of a substitution, all efforts will be made to provide an alternative of equal or greater value. Prizes are non-transferrable, other than cash prizes which may be awarded to the Winner’s parent/legal guardian in the event they are a minor; Prize winners are solely responsible for all applicable taxes related to accepting the prize. Winners may be required to sign an affidavit of eligibility, liability release, publicity release (unless prohibited by law), and tax documents (the “Documents”). If the winner does not complete the required Documents as instructed and/or return the required Documents within the time period listed on the Winner notification message, the prize will be forfeited.  Next Generation Disc Golf reserves the right to award any forfeited prizes as they see fit, or not at all.
