1. Eligibility

Tour:  All amateur disc golfers as defined by the PDGA.  <https://www.pdga.com/divisions>

If a competitor does not currently have a PDGA player status/rating please see the “competition and etiquette” portion of this handbook.

Divisional:  For competitors with an active PDGA rating, your rating at the time you compete in a qualifier defines your division for the entire tour. For example, if a player’s rating is 927 when they compete in the Knight division in their qualifier and their rating jumps to 936 by regional championship, they may still compete in the Knight division.  If your rating qualifies you for an NG division at the time you register and it changes prior to your competing in a qualifier, it is the competitors responsibility to move to the correct division for the qualifier.

2. Registration, Withdrawals and Refunds

Registration: Registration for the 2018 Qualifier Tournaments opens initially on February 15, 2018 with additional qualifier events being added from time to time. The Next Gen staff will seek to open registration a minimum of 3 weeks prior to any event whenever possible. All Next Generation Registration and Entry Fees, including day-of and on-site, are intended to be collected through www.discgolfscene.com

Registration for all Regional Championship Tournaments are by invitation only; Qualified invitees will be sent registration information once after their respective qualifier has been fully reported per PDGA and NG requirements.  All registration for the Regional Championship tournaments will be hosted by www.discgolfscene.com

No-Shows: All events; Competitors will be treated as ‘no-shows’ if they do not check-in by the published time.   Any no-show competitors who have not withdrawn as per above forfeit their entry fee and players package.

3. Competition and Etiquette

All Next Generation Tournaments will follow the Official Rules of Disc Golf as defined by the Professional Disc Golf Association and the Professional Disc Golf Association Competition Manual for Disc Golf Events unless superseded or contradicted by any statement in this Handbook.

3 PDGA Rating-Based Divisions will be contested at all  Next Generation Qualifier and Regional Championship Tournaments:

  • Gladiators: Similar to PDGA Blue-Ratings Division (RAH) Open to all competitors with a PDGA player rating of 935 or higher;
  • Knights: Similar to PDGA White- Ratings Division (RAD)  Open to all competitors with a PDGA player rating between 900-935;
  • Saints: Similar to PDGA Red- Ratings Division (RAE) Open to all competitors with a PDGA player rating lower than 900

Competitors without a current PDGA player rating may select their division when registering for a Qualifier Tournament. Players without a current PDGA player rating will be invited to compete in the Regional Championship in the division that their average player rating for the qualifier places them. For example, if Tommy BigGunz wins the Saints division at his local qualifier and throws an average tournament rating of 948 – Tommy’s going to get invited to play with the Gladiators at the Regional Championship.

Any exceptions to the Official Rules at a specific Next Generation Tournament will be announced at the Players Meeting prior to the event.

All competitors in Next Generation Tournaments are expected to compete with the highest integrity and respect for the Official Rules. Any competitor guilty of misconduct is subject to disciplinary action up to disqualification by the Tournament Director. Any competitor disqualified from a Next Generation Tournament  automatically forfeits: any further participation in 2018 Next Generation Tournaments, prizes, player package, and, if applicable, refunds therefrom.

Any appeals must be made in writing via e-mail to the respective Regional Coordinator and the Next Generation Tour Director and allow a minimum of 3 weeks prior to any next potential tournament. In the event any appeal is not filed on time- the expected consideration, should the appeal be granted, is a refund of the competitors entry fee.

US Virtual Divisional Challenge:  Competitors may elect to enter the US Virtual Divisional Challenge when registering for a qualifier for an additional $12. Competitors who compete in more than one qualifier may opt for the US Virtual Divisional Challenge when registering for each and each entry is treated as a separate entry in the US Virtual Divisional Challenge. All qualifier rounds will receive a PDGA rating, the average of both ratings will be ranked against all other US Virtual Divisional Challenge competitors in that division on a national basis using the competitor’s overall place of finish to break any ties. A players rating for the US Virtual Divisional Challenge will only be significant at the time the specific event was completed. If a players rating increases after the event it will not affect previously played qualifier tournaments and challenge entries.

Unofficial standings for the Gladiator, Knight and Saint divisions (men’s) will be hosted by PDGA.com throughout the season;  Note: these standings are unofficial as they will include female competitors.
